DUDLEY'S CUSTOM PAINTBOOTH.

Updated: Jun 6

Welcome to my blog about building paint booth for spraying models in, I've got 3 types of paintbooths and all are on YouTube, and all good if you get it right and it gives you time to save up if need to, The paintbooth's I will be showing you after the first two is my best one which I now use.

My first paintbooth was used with spraycans and was made out of cardboard it was a box what I had my first 3 model I used spray cans in and I had to boxers and I used them both to make a cardboard booth, it was very easy and cheap if you need to bay boxers I've seen them going under £20 and then you need 50mm x 50m packaging tape is £6, you can use masking tape but trust me it work but after abit of time of using the masking tape falls off, I think heavy Brown packaging tape is better. I should say I didn't but a fan on, and I was using it outside, best place to use cardboard booth.

The boxers booth lasted me a year and that was with using spray cans and not looking after it.

VIDEO GOT DETETE, NEW ONE COMING SOON.

THE COST ALL TOGETGER FOR CARDBOARD BOOTH IS UNDER £26. FOR A BAY AND USE BOOTH ITS UNDER £200

My second paintbooth was a custom built to fit in to my shed and the space I had, I use 3 sheets of 6mm MDF cost £23, with airline shower fan kit cost £64, and gloss paint white cost £26 LED tube light 30w ultra slim 2 in a pack cast £36. Trust me this part is not needed it was a waste of time and it didn't help, Got a light switch cost £4 and a plastic 30mm single pattress box cost £1 to have the power to turn off and on the light with fan. Like I said it's no good and no help, I did it thinking it will be better, but no its easier and better to just un bruges it when done.

THE COST OF IT ALL TOGETHER FOR SECOND BOOTH IS £163 THEN IF YOU WANT TO ADD THE OTHER PART IT'S £168 FOR A BAY AND USE BOOTH ITS UNDER £200

My third paintbooth is the one I am using now, it was easier to build because I did have to customise it work table and I used the top as the bottom of the booth for that and used the same wood as the table and it was plywood, The wood is called hardwood plywood 18mm thick 6ft x 2ft using this wood is easy and cheap it cost £25 picking that size because I've got dyslexia and also problem's with numbers I had to have my dads help we worked out if you cut it right you can use one wood, with cutting the top and we don't need the bottom the top to the right size, and the side's to the right size too, and I made it so the found of the booth is lower at the back thats so well I hope the paint goes into the fan easier, and when I looked at the bay to go booth it's like that too. I do what to say I didn't say sizes become my size might not work for you. I used Evo-stik wood glue what is £7 to but the wood together using some gramps to keep them together then using steel wood screws what is £4 a box this helped to make it stronger if I wanted to but stuff on top like I do, I also got some white gloss paint cost £26 I painted in and outside of the booth I recommend 3 cost of paint and do it before you but the other stuff in place.

After about 4 or 5 days of the paint and glue to dry and let it set in place I got some white all conditions sealant silicone to do all the corners on the side on the inside to try and stop the over spray if there is any to stay in the booth and when I did that I used silicone remover this helped to give a clean finish to it and keeps your hands clean, Then I left it for 4 or 5 days to dry. When I was waiting for the glue to dry I did the hole in the wall for the paint Frumes to leave in.

After that's all dry, We started to cut the holes on the booth and but stuff in place like the fan what is HG power through-the -wall ventilation fan hight cost £30, Then got 150mm pipe diameter what is £29, to but it on the fan I used Steel Pipe clamp what is £3, One end of the vent goes onto the fan what is open then the other end has to go through the wall the vent might rip and the bricks might do it, I also used on the out side of the wall to make the fancy to go down I got 150mm white plastic cowled air vent, Then I got my light what is called LED under cabinet light the good thing about there it's very easy to put up no need to drill holes you just use stick tape and magnatch to but them up and the light has a off and on bottom and it's a USB power cost £15, So the cable for the lights and the fan don't get in the way I used cable clips there's was stick on the wall and no needed for a hammer there's came in a pack of 60 and cost £7 and I used extension lead on the outside of the booth this is also hander for power tools but the blug for the fan and lights will be in there most of the time cost £11 but not needed if your booth is next to a 2 build into wall brug I just thought it will be a good idea to add it there so I can use power tools when needed, I then got a left over cutting mat what had glue on and it's a A3 mat so I thought it will be good to use it in the paint booth so I did and now when I am painting I still need to but kitchen roll down but I don't have to if I don't need to now or if I forget, I don't have to worry to keep the mat in the place I used tape hand roll black, Cutting mat cost £8 and the tape cost £2. But that is not needed too just thought say so if you think it's a good idea you can use it too,

Yes it can be easier and sometimes cheaper to get blog and go paintbooth but building one to fit where you need it is sometimes better foe you and the space you are in, and sometimes you can upgrade the stuff you have on the booth.

Hope this blog helps.

Thank you for reading.

In the blog the links will help you to find the right Video's, Tool's and stuff I used.
